My Yard
By DJ DeVeau

This was a really nice painting project that I did over a few years.

This is a 18 inch wide 24 inch tall brush water color paint on canvas.

I worked on this mostly during my two-week vacation over the winter holiday season and on winter snow days of course.

I kept it hung on the wall next to my desk in my bedroom when I was not painting. This gave me plenty of time to plan out each section and to try some new techniques.

Painting is something I do just for me. I get to use my talents in fine arts and the art of design drafting with my style of impressionistic realism. I get totally lost in the full control of those moments when my brush strokes colors to life.

When I came up with the ideas for this painting it started around a happy place for me to get lost in when I looked at. Sitting in my thinking chair in a yard I don't have to mow with my cats and nature's critters,,, and yes that's my shadow with my hat on going toward my chair.

Here are some of the details as it evolved...

As you can see in my original sketch on this canvas I had started with some different ideas.

We adopted our third cat and I thought the picture of me on the table was to vain. I was playing my clarinet allot then and the dancing music notes were to surreal.

Basically it's why I like to be working on at least one long art project. The breaks in between painting give me time to think about it and be totally in the mood to completely enjoy.

Even if you are not an artist you will appreciate the levels of work and these close up views,,, so please sit back in your chair and enjoy...

These are the berry bushes in the left background.

These are the evergreen trees on the right side and edge.

This is the tree after shadowing and the frog catching a moth with his tong was added.

This is the tree after adding the new growth at the ends of the branches and the two squirrels.

This is the squirrels close up.

The barn roof base colors.

The barn walls all painted.

The lawnmower as a flowerpot holder started.

After a couple blue jays flew into the yard.

Everything roughed in enough to begin adding details.

Everything detailed enough to start the three cats.

The cats with base colors and buds on the tree.

The cats all detailed,,, including their personalities.
